Large-scale military operation carried out in Algerian desert

Corroborating sources revealed that joint security forces carried over the last few days a large –scale combing operation in the North Eastern Sahara regions between the cities of Al Oued, Tebessa and Khenchela, aiming to chase Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb elements led by Abdelmalek Droudkel.

• The terrorists chose these areas as backdrop zone for their activities, and carried out one of the deadliest attacks killing 7 border guards in the region of Guemmar, Al Oued.
• Some 20 individuals whose age range from 20 to 38 years old have been arrested by security forces in various localities over the last few days, most of them were busted following the elimination of a dangerous “Emir” known as “Al fodhil Abu Derdaa” on June 18 in the city of Al Oued.
