Late Chadli Bendjedid used to say: “History was unfair to me”, (Chadli’s brother)

In a very emotional encounter with Echorouk, late Former President Chadli Bendjedid’s intimate brother, Khelifa Bendjedid related the last difficult moments endured by the latter in his strenuous battle with his kidney cancer disease until his demise last Saturday at the Ain Naadja military hospital east of Algiers

  • Khelifa Bendjedid said that he didn’t waver in visiting his elder and cherished brother in hospital every day in order to bring him some human warmth and to help him cope with his excruciating disease which made suffer a lot especially in his last days, he explained.
  • He added that after a 3 month period spent in France for medical treatment, late Chadli Bendjedid went back to his home country Algeria but his health condition didn’t improve for that matter.
  • Khelifa Bendjedid, with tears in his eyes, stated that his ailing brother was again rushed to hospital in early October for intensive medical care but unfortunately he was declared clinically dead on October 3rd, despite all the unflagging efforts by the medical personnel to relieve him of his pain resulting from a kidney cancer compounded by heart problems.
  • Khelifa pointed out that the demise of late former President Chadli Bendjedid was a big loss for his family members but also for the entire nation as well, in view of the deceased’s lofty moral values, his good attributes and his great achievements while at the helm of the Algerian state .
  • He also indicated that before his death in hospital, late Chadli Bendjedid spoke a great deal about the imperious necessity of having his book containing his lifetime memoirs published on November 1st, coinciding with the 58th anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious armed revolution for Algeria’s freedom, sovereignty and independence on November 1st 1954.
