Leaks: Bouteflika sent diplomatic messages to the U.S administration: “France never believed in Algeria’s independence and its support to Morocco is revenge”

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said that the French positions towards Algeria’s foreign policy and Western Sahara are still guided by the colonial history.

Wiki Leaks, famous for leaking documents of the U.S. administration and its embassies abroad, reported that Bouteflika told an American female official who was working for George Bush administration that “France never believed in Algeria’s independence” , a statement that occurred during a bad and unexpected Algeria –France period, because the French National Association (Parliament) approved the 23 February law, which praise occupation.

Bouteflika added, during a three hours meeting with the U.S. advisor to the security matter during George W. Bush administration, on may 2007, that inability of the French government to accept Algeria’s independence is obvious as France always supported Morocco to in its conflict with the Polisario Front in order to put pressure on Algeria and protect its interests.

Bouteflika asserted that the French could not, because of their colonial history in Morocco, to play a positive role in the Western Sahara conflict, referring to the Algerian government demands for applying the international law and legitimacy regarding the conflict, back to the seventies, remaining without a solution, although many other conflicts were solved such as Honduras, Burney and Surinam, which got their independence since a long time ago.

Bouteflika, according to Wiki leaks, calls on Americans to play the role of mediators between Morocco and the Polisario Front saying; “Morocco and the ¨Polisario Front must find a solution and they can reach it through an American mediation. I cannot solve the problem, and I can’t speak in favor of the Sahrawi people”.
