Libya Counts Over 26 Million Pieces Of Weapons

Algeria asked the United Nations to intervene and pressurise the countries that disturb the peace negotiations in Libya, referring the opinion of observers to Morocco, Qatar and France, and confirmed in a frank speech by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the Maghreb, African Union and the Arab League Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel, who spoke with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the Libyan mission, Martin Kobler, about Algeria’s refusal of a military intervention in the region, “Even though it was only for the presence, and by request of internal parties.”

Messahel said, during a press conference that was organised on Sunday, at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, after the completion of talks with Kobler, that Algeria presented its proposals to the United Nations, which he summed up in the importance of pressurising the disturbers on peace negotiations in Libya, and called for the involvement of all Libyan parties to the national consensus consultations, recalling in this context, that Algeria was the only country that received all the parties, and mediate for it without interfering in its privacy, and reiterated its rejection of military intervention in Libya.

While Kobler termed it as a “military presence”, which came at the request of Libya’s Presidential Council, but Messahel was against such interventions, and described their impact as negative on peace consultations, calling on the international community to stop the practice of pressure to nip these dialogues, and asserted the need of the Security Council’s support for a legitimate government, and face the security challenges in the region.

Messahel reiterated the experience of Algeria in the fight against terrorism, and demanded the return of the Libyan Presidential Council to the capital, Tripoli, to be the seat of government by the beginning of April 2016, which he called a natural situation.

Messahel talked about preparing a meeting on the Libyan dialogue in Tripoli soon, and another in New York, saying that the Libyan peace, despite the role of the United Nations and the international community, must result from the depth of the Libyans themselves, as they are the only ones who are able to achieve it, as he revealed in this context, on starting the talks with Kobler about the experience of the national reconciliation in Algeria, and the possibility to take advantage of this experience in Libya, admitting that there is a complicated situation in the region, but in return he was optimist with the opportunities to apply what came in the political agreement that was signed on last December, 17;

For his part, Martin Kobler, admitted the passing of 26 million pieces of weapons to Libya, saying “Number of Libyans today exceeds 6 million people, but they have 26 million pieces of weapons”, wondering about their origin: “These weapons did not come down from the sky, but through marine vessels and land roads”, adding that objective experts have begun investigating in a number of countries, and will prepare detailed reports on all those involved, and will call them with their names without delay, and give the file to the Security Council, however, and with regard to the sanctions that will be imposed on those involved, he explained that it is not under consideration at the present time.

Kobler gave an outcome about the situation in Libya, and asserted that it has all the abilities and wealth for the advancement of its economy, but what matters today is stability, and that is what the United Nations seeks to reach, according to Kobler, who confirmed the of ISIS groups in Sirte, and their disappearance, either after their elimination or after displacement.

“Challenges for the next stage are to restore security, reduce smuggling, regain the oil industry, achieve structural services to citizens, re-activate the health and education sectors, and infanticide immigration counting the escape of 100.000 Libyan across Tripoli to Italy”.

The UN official praised the role of Algeria in the Libyan negotiations, which he said would not succeed without the support of the Algerian government.
