Libya Crisis: Algeria, Tunisia And Egypt To Meet Early In March

A summit of Foreign Ministers of Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt on the Libyan crisis will be held early on March in the Tunisian capital, informed sources said.

Same information was confirmed by the Tunisian Foreign Minister, Khamis Al Djahinaoui, but without setting a date for it.

This summit is devoted to consider a general perception to resolve the Libyan crisis, based on the reading off of accumulations that are produced by the initiatives that were launched by Algeria and Tunisia.

Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi commissioned his Foreign Minister to present the project on the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi before it is put to the talks.

Tunisian Foreign Minister explains the initiative and says: “It’s a step that we made in mid-December, and it is now progressing, and there is an important meeting between the three countries’ Foreign Ministers to lay the foundations for this perception”.

“Consultations will continue with anticipated visits of a number of Libyan to Tunisia, before the expected date”.

Algerian Director of Presidency Cabinet, Ahmed Ouyahia, paid a visit to Tunisia, where he met the leader of the Tunisian Annahda movement, Rached Ghannouchi, and some figures of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement in Libya, like Ali Assalabi, but sources that are linked to the Libyan file, denied that the entry of Ouyahia and Ghannouchi on the line of this crisis, constitutes a “parallel diplomacy” for the efforts that are undertaken by the Ministry of Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League.

This meeting reflects the high level cooperation regarding the Libyan crisis between Tunisia and Algeria, which means that Algeria’s efforts lie at the next meeting, through receiving many Libyan officials, as the most recent was a delegation of Zintan tribes that is visiting Algeria these.

What promotes the weight of Algiers in the upcoming meeting, is that the Foreign Ministry established bridges of communication with various Libyan parties, such as the Presidential Council in Tripoli and the Government of Tobruk (unrecognized) in the Far East, and the tribes of Misrata and Zintan, and Colonel Khalifa Haftar as well, unlike the rest of the other neighboring countries ( Egypt and Tunisia) that have relationships with only one party without another.

This is why the powerful states welcome the Algerian role in the Libyan crisis, according to a senior source, because all the efforts by the United Nations that were backed by France, Britain and the United States, have not achieved the desired results, so far.
