The head of the political Bureau of Libya’s Supreme revolutionary Council, Abderrahmane Dibani, has declared that the Libyans stick to Algeria’s mediation role in resolving the current crisis besetting Libya.

He also asserted that Morocco’s invitation to the various Libyan rival factions to get together in the Kingdom at the request of the United Nations won’t succeed if it isn’t backed up by Algeria itself.

Mr Dibani highlighted to this effect the excellent position against any foreign military intervention in the Libyan conflict now upheld by Algeria which is keen to  favour an inclusive dialogue among the Libyan brothers so as to safeguard the unity and cohesion of the Libyan people and preserve their national sovereignty away from any outside interference, he said.

Just a day before warring Libyan factions were supposed to huddle together for a conflict resolution dialogue, the Moroccan initiative has petered out.

The internationally-recognized parliament in Tobruk backed out of planned talks in Morocco, blaming the radical rivals for Friday’s horrendous suicide attack, which killed over 40 people and injured many more.

The eleventh-hour decision to suspend participation was taken as Tobruk parliamentarians wanted to preempt demands from the international community to include members from the radicals-dominated General National Congress in Tripoli in any future unity government.

They thought, as stated by Issa Al Aribi, a legislator, it would compromise their legitimacy and provide impetus to extremists who are reportedly linked with “Daesh” terror group  and are running a parallel government from Tripoli.
