Life returns to normal in Algeria: Citizens do not understand Red Sugar measures and wonder about their future after eight months

It is not surprising when a simple worker in an Algerian municipality finds difficulties in gathering remnants of glass that break from a bus and it is also normal when he does not understand what was introduced in the news bulletin at 8:00 pm.

Like any other Algerians who cannot understand what was stated by their government asking questions about their future in the coming eight months. And what does government mean by the Red sugar.

Thanks to school pupils and university students life returns to normal in Algiers and other cities on Sunday, but many oil stations remained closed, thing which contributed in escalating the crisis and rumors spread about a general strike in Algeria.

Echorouk first destination to schools where pupils finished their morning courses and parents came to wait for their children to take them home due to the recent riots.

Echorouk asked them about the government’s actions after cutting the prices of basic products, one said;Is it true that 5 liters of oil would fall to 450 dinars?

Another man approached us and said; “, I know that government cuts prices of basic products, and suspended that tax measure, what I cannot understand is why for a period of eight months, does this mean that we will also face another destruction and demonstrations after the end of this period?

Citizens do not understand government statement:

When we talked to those citizens we discovered that they do not understand the government statement. A woman on her way to Hussein-Day post said; “When I watched the news bulletin on the Algerian TV channel I was completely lost because she said complicated and astonishing things like TVA and Red Sugar. Is this our real problem? What does it mean? We do not buy red sugar?”

Her question means that there is an ambiguity for many Algerians because it lacks clarity in some points such as suspension of the TVA, custom taxations and charges on profits.

Some citizens are also surprised due to the suspension of taxes for only eight months; they said it is a period to calm down the situation. A man who was bringing some bread said; “What will happen again after eight months. Government does not speak about the prices of oil and sugar. We have the right to know about this?”

A merchant of food products expressed his concern about the period of eight month saying; “This means that a new wave of anger could grow after eight months”.
