Life sentence sought against drug smugglers in Algeria
An Attorney General at a court in Algiers sought a life sentence on Monday for four suspects accused of smuggling drugs from Morocco to Algeria.

The case was discovered on January 28, 2007 when customs agents found 26 kg of cannabis in a car belonging to a French man who was heading for Marseille on ship. He told security forces he had attempted to smuggle drugs and an Algerian living in France had bought the car for him.

The French suspect was supposed to meet the Algerian’s brother in an airport in Algeria to transport him to the city of Megnia (west of Algiers) and smuggle him into Morocco.

Earlier, Algerian anti-drug organization chief said113 tons of cannabis were smuggled from Morocco to Europe across Algeria in January-September 2008. Of them, 17 tons were seized by Algerian security forces.
