The Algerian justice minister Taib Louh Tuesday said former tycoon Abdelmoumene Khalifa, a main suspect in the Khalifa case will be extradited before December 31st if there is no appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

“Algerian authorities completed all extradition procedures stipulated by the United Kingdom’s law. It is supposed to be done before the end of December if there is no appeal to the European Court of Human Rights,” said Louh.

Khalifa has been jailed in London since 2007 after he was arrested following a European warrant.

According to the minister, the Algerian authorities are following the case and taking necessary measures to extradite Khalifa in accordance to stipulated procedures. The trial will be conducted in the same way.

Louh did not give more details about the case which has been suspended since 2001 as Algerian authorities have not stopped asking for Khalifa’s extradition since he left the country in 2002. British authorities rejected this request saying human rights may be violated in his trial.
