Mali-Algeria Qualifier To Be Played In Ouagadougou Stadium: Official

FIFA has unveiled the official venue for the Mali-Algeria World Cup qualifying match, after it was decided to move it away from Bamako following continued political instability in the west African nation.

  • Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou will now host both teams on June 9 at the Stade du 4-Aout, FIFA said.
  • The Algerian football federation had requested for a change of venue after Egypt’s Al Ahly and Nigeria’s Sunshine Stars were left stranded in Bamako due to resurgence of violence in the city, however, Malian officials had argued there were enough security guarantees for the fixture to be held at its original venue.
  • Both teams, Algeria and Mali are drawn in Group H alongside Rwanda and Benin.
  • The Eagles of Mali will open their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign against the Squirrels of Benin on Sunday June 3 in Cotonou, while Algeria played host to the Amavubis of Rwanda on June 2 in Blida stadium. Algeria’s Fennecs trounced the visiting Rwanda line-up by 4 goals to nil.
