Masked individuals tried to carjack the French consul in Oran
The court of Oran, has yesterday pronounced sentences against the gang involved in the mugging of the French Consul and his family members on their way to visit the historical and tourist monument “Santa Cruzâ€.
- The public prosecutor sentenced four of them to four years imprisonment on charges of constitution of criminal groups and assault while two of their acolytes are still at large.
- The consul and his family have miraculously aborted the assault of a group of criminals wearing masks and armed with daggers and swords. The group has intercepted the consul, his wife, mother and sister while they were riding up on their “Peugeot 308” to Santa Cruz at around noon.
- The criminals threatened them with swords and daggers forcing them to stop and steal their car.
- But the driver has made a swift manoeuvre and turned the car backward to head for the security forces that carried out combing operation that wound up with the arrest of four criminals.
- Though physically unhurt, the consul’s family members described their joyride to Santa Cruz by a nightmare bring back to the surface the necessity of securing itineraries leading to tourist and historical sites.
