Mauritanian mediation to unify Algerian Islamists

President of the League of Mauritania’s Scholars Hussein Ould Dedou said he works on mediation between Islamic parties in Algeria to unify them as he managed to unify the MSP party and the Change Front.Ould Dedou said he will contact Nahda Movement on his visit to Algiers.

Speaking about Islamic parties’ role in the Maghreb’s unity, he told Echorouk that he will continue his efforts to reach unity.

This comes as Algeria’s presidential elections are expected to be held within few months.

The MSP’s leader Abderrezak Mokri told a press conference Ould Dedou’s visit comes as part of Maghreb’s unity and there is a need for being conscious about the importance of unity.

Ould Dedou said the lack of consciousness among people in the Maghreb region is behind the failure of unity efforts.

“Scholars’ mission is not just teaching. They should raise awareness and advice politicians because the Maghreb’s unity project is not just a political project. It is the project of the region’s people,” he

said.

 “It is important that those people move. This is the role of scientific institutions. My visit to Algeria is related to this as well. Unity among Islamic parties will be the first step to reach

unity between the Arab Maghreb’s people,” he added.

“If Islamic parties are united, this will help to achieve the Arab Maghreb’s unity.”

He called for finding a satisfying and just solution for the Western Sahara issue.

“Any just solution either a Maghrebin or international initiative must satisfying,” he said.
