Medical blunders in Algeria… “crimes” committed in all impunity
Numerous Algerian patients have been thrown into despair and disarray after being the victims of gross medical mistakes by certain surgeons in various public hospitals or private clinics of the country without being properly compensated for their inflicted physical disability as part of their lawsuits filed before justice against these failing doctors.
In a statement to Echorouk, the Secretary General of the national organization of victims of medical errors, Mahieddine Abubakr said that 95% of the victims of this surgical malpractice had not as yet been indemnified at all by justice despite sustained legal proceedings to this effect.
He indicated that many of these hapless patients had been waiting for a proper financial compensation by the relevant judicial authorities for 13 years now but so far to no avail.
He also underlined that many of these surgical blunders by faulty or reckless doctors were appalling for the victimized patients whose lives have tumbled upside down all of a sudden.
According to statistics released by the national order council of Algerian doctors (CNOM), over 100 awful medical mistakes are recorded per year at the level of various Algerian hospitals and clinics with the perpetrators of these surgical “misdeeds” on innocent patients still living and working in all impunity far away from the punishment which must be normally meted out by the judicial apparatus.
