Menasra:we are against constitutional change
Leader of Algeria’s Change Front Abdelmadjid Menasra said his party is against the Constitution amendment shortly before the next presidential elections.
“I am against the extension of President Bouteflika’s term to two additional years. Algeria does not need this extension,” Menasra told Echorouk.
“The Change Front’s position is clear and it has already been announced. It is totally against any constitutional change during this period ahead of the presidential elections,” he added.
He also said his party calls for amending the Constitution after the elections as part of reforms to found the second Algerian republic based on strong institutions and powers’ independence.
Asked about rumors on the president’s plan to change the Constitution, Menasra said his party is against the extension of the president’s term. “We do not need a 7-year-term.”
He believes that the Constitution must not be changed in accordance to people’s desire.
He criticized a number of medias for not covering the activities of his party as it organized an event about the protection of Al-Qods and the liberation of Al-Aqsa.
He criticized authorities for not caring about Al-Qods and the Palestinian cause. “I did not hear the Algerian authorities’ position about what is happening in Al-Qods and Palestine.”
