Minister: MPs’ revisions haven't changed the core of the media law
The minister of communication Nacer M’Hel has yesterday announced the organization of a series of workshops with the aim to review the journalist’s special status in the wake of the endorsement of the new media law by the upper house of the parliament.

He has also announced a battery of laws related to publicity in the audiovisual sector declining to give fixed dates for the start of the works. M M’Hel has declared that the journalists have the right to criticize the content of the law.

Talking on the sidelines of the endorsement of the law, the minister has indicated that the law was not an impediment to freedom of expression putting forward the cancellation of the coercive provision included in the former law.

Some members of the parliament have vehemently criticized the law considering that it doesn’t guarantee the journalist’s safety. Meanwhile, the MPs of the presidential alliance, except those of the party for Society of Peace, have unanimously voted the law.

The representatives of the National Front for Change have rejected the law considering that it didn’t live up to the expectations of the family of media professionals and didn’t tackle the issue of liberalization of the audiovisual sector.
