Mobs use internet to hit the country’s stability: minister reveals
Algerian Interior Minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni

The interior minister, Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni, gave his own interpretation concerning the latest events that shook some Algerian towns, saying that investigations and intelligence proved the involvement of interior parties in close collaboration with foreign ones in order to undermine the nation’s stability.

  • During his press conference Sunday held in Annaba, (east of Algeria), the minister replied to “Echorouk” newspaper saying that security forces including police and national gendarmerie are doing their utmost to unmask those behind these events.
  • Even if the minister tried to belittle the seriousness of the events that shook both the towns of Oran (western Algeria) and the city of Al Harrach (Algiers’ suburbs) linking them to sports causes, this one officially acknowledged the existence of foreign networks in collaboration with interior forces, seeking to manipulate the population of Berriane (south of Algeria).
  • In this respect, he added, the computers seized during the investigations were found connected to several international networks, which means that foreign parties were involved in the dramatic events. Their ultimate goal, M Zerhouni went on saying, was to “ create instability” once again in the country.
  • Answering to question in connection with religious practices, M Zerhouni, said that the Algerian legislation is quite clear in this field, the same laws are ruling both the Islamic religion and the Christian one.
