Mohamed Mechati: Islam is not a beard and a long dress
Talking during a cultural forum organized by the association of the friend of “ Imadghassen” in conjution with the university of Batna, the revolutionary war veteran and member of the “ G22” Mohamed Mechati has expressed his utmost sadness to the vanishing of the “ Badissi” religious legacy.
This cultural heritage that was voiced by the Muslim Clerics Association chaired by Abdelhamid Ben Badiss has largely contributed to the prevalence of the Algerian revolution, noting that the spread of some strange religious believes in the Algerian society has nothing to do with its legacy.
Mohamed Mechati has bluntly declared that “ Islam is not limited to the wearing of a beard and a long dress” , slashing at the social, political and economic decay of the country as well as the spread of unemployment among the youngsters.
He laid the blame on officials who took the destiny of the country but didn’t live up to the expectations of the martyrs, drawing a parallel with the Vietnamese ones that started a revolution 20 years ago transforming the country into an emerging nation.
