More security procedures to stop explosive belt attacks in Algeria
The suicide bomber failed to carry out his attack as he was killed before blowing himself up.

Security authorities have carried out their investigations about the suicide attack’s attempt on the republican guards building in Borj El Kifan ( west of the capital Algiers), which is described as being “ subjected to confusion in implementation and improvisation of the plan”.

  • Preliminary investigations expected that the plan came under impulsive work of some elements from the suicide cell which had been dismantled after the two suicide attacks in 11 December 2006.
  • A close source from the investigations said that “each terrorist process left its fingerprints, what makes the logistical background accessible to investigators”.
  • Investigators relied on what they describe “ the biggest example” when speaking about the two suicide bombers who targeted both the Constitutional Council building in Ben Aknoun and the UN headquarters in Hydra.
  • Security authorities dismantled the supporting cell, and conducting funds and spoiled cell of “The Salafist group of fight and avocations.  This operation was a strong blow against the logistical support networks in the capital “according to fingerprints left in the two operations”.

  • Security authorities such as gendarmerie and police supported many checkpoints with reagents of explosive materials, including targeted areas by terrorist groups in the capital and its suburbs. Some army units were also provided with these devises to thwart the attempts of executing bombs as it is noticed that army forces installed barriers in some area south of Algiers.
  • Security authorities refused to talk about some measures taken to stop suicide attacks. On the other hand, available information on terrorists’ movements revealed that “ the presence of security forces in all axes and roads has been strengthened”, in addition to activating the work of intelligence, and better utilization of available information on terrorists’ moves to monitor supporting sources in the capital popular districts.
  • Within the fight against terrorism authorities are operating on finding bomb belts workshops. Investigations begun with involved suspects along with these cells in light of information provided and exploited to disclose the identity of the remaining terrorist cells behind recent acts.
  • Security authorities renewed their previous devices issued to show more vigilance and intensified oversight especially in security centres and public bodies buildings.
