More than 15.000 homeless children in Algiers
The capital Algiers counts more than 15.000 homeless children, According to Kheyat Mostafa, head of the National Institution for Health Promotion and Research “FORUMâ€,

“A lot of children who are subjected to delinquency”. He said during a symposium organized by “FORUM”.

“This situation reflects the real sufferance of children in Algeria which counts more than 3000 orphan children,” he added.

Algerian security services and gendarmerie recorded more than 87 children kidnapping in 2007.

Mr. Khayat said in Algeria there is not a law which protected children, international deals and some legislative drafts are not sufficient to stop this phenomenon.

“There are no exact statistics about the number of working children under the legal age since the independence. Available figures reveal that there are 300.000 children at work, a figure that doubled during the holidays,” he stressed.

Luck of laws that punish parents plays a big role in raising the number homeless children.

During the symposium Mr. Khayat presented his book “cyber-criminality and children in Algeria” recently published in French.

In his book, the writer spoke about the advantages and drawbacks of internet in Algeria through out four investigations in this field.

Representatives of ministries and embassies in Algeria participated in the symposium. The Dutch embassy provided aid for 6000 children as a first stage and is expected to grant other aid for 3000 new children.
