More than 1500 children sexually abused since the beginning of 2008 in Algeria

More than 1500 children were sexually abused in Algeria since the beginning of 2008. Most of these crimes were committed against girls less 10 after being abducted. According to the latest report and statistics by the Algerian Security Interests, 975 sexual abuses cases have been recorded.

• Specialists describe this phenomenon as the most heinous crime, because it is violating innocent children. Despite the efforts to confront it, according to the “National Bureau of Health and Research Promotion” FORAM, the figures have tripled since 2003. Strangest sexual abuses are those committed by parents on their children, in big towns.
• Observers confirme that these figures reflect only 10% of the reality, because of the distinctive customs and traditions which hide the truth, to preserve the victim’s families reputation.
