Former member of Morocco’s Independence Party said humiliated Algeria saying its president Abdelaziz Bouteflika should go to treat himself and the provinces of Tindouf and Bechar must be brought back to Morocco.

“We are talking about developing Parliament but we forgot to talk about Eastern Sahara. As for President Bouteflika, he should go to treat himself,” said the deputy during celebration ceremony on Moroccan Parliament’s 50th anniversary.

The ceremony was attended by representative of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Mohamed Cherif Brahmia, member of the Algerian Council of Nation Adam Kobi and academics.

Brahmia told Echorouk he submitted a detailed report to the Algerian Parliament’s speaker Larbi Ould Khelifa about the representatives’ visit to Morocco as part of a parliamentary mission.

He said they left the Moroccan Parliament’s building as the deputy started offending Algeria.

Kobi told Echorouk the representatives were assigned by the president of the Council of Nation Abdelkader Bensaleh and Ould Khelifa to attend the ceremony.

“We got a hearty welcome. We were taken to a luxurious hotel in Rabat. What happened was not expected. We were among many delegations and academics who made presentations about the Moroccan Parliament,” he added.

About one hour after the ceremony closing, the Moroccan deputy started delivering an address, saying there is a need to talk about Eastern Sahara and Algerian President Bouteflika should go to treat himself.

Kobi said the Moroccan Parliament’s speaker who attended the ceremony did not react to the deputy’s remarks.

“We quitted the conference room and went to the hotel. This position is due to the situation of Algerian-Moroccan relations which reached the highest level of escalation,” he added.

Diplomatic advisor of the Moroccan representatives ‘council called the Algerian representatives and apologized.

He told them the Moroccan Parliament’s speaker apologizes for what happened and invited them for dinner.

“We rejected the invitation and we talked to the Algerian ambassador to Rabat. He told us you would better leave the hotel and spend the night with me,” said Kobi.
