Morocco Smuggled 800 Tons Of Drugs To Algeria During 9 Years

Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights accused Morocco of smuggling hundreds of tons of drugs to Algeria, and counted more than 800 tons of drugs that were introduced to Algeria over the Moroccan border with Algeria in the last nine years, in addition to the involvement of about 145.000 people, including 1279 foreigners in drug trafficking cases.

On the eve of the celebration of the World Day to Combat Drug Trafficking, June 26, ALDHR warned of the exacerbation and the spread of drugs in schools, universities and slums that are smuggled to Algeria through Morocco, and which pose a significant threat to the Algerian youth, especially since the rampant drug targets currently and at a large scale the youth.

United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime announced that the Kingdom of Morocco remains the leading producer and supplier of cannabis in the world and it exports it to the European and African markets in particular, and threatens its neighbours directly.

ALDHR’s report revealed on the presence of Algeria in the second place globally in the quantity of the seized drus after Spain, according to official figures of the anti-drug teams at the national security during the first four months of 2016 only, as they seized 27.816,874 kg of cannabis, and tons which penetrate the Algerian border coming from the western border of the country every day.

United Nations’s report on Countering Drugs and Crime revealed that the areas that are allocated for the cultivation of cannabis in Morocco reached 57,000 hectares, and about 800.000 farmers work in the fields of cannabis, which calls for intensifying the efforts to combat this scourge.
