Morocco's “Makhzen” in tight corner after Echorouk's fact-finding assignment report in occupied Sahraoui town of Dakhla (Part 1)
Anouar Malek
As I was expecting, the Moroccan authorities led by the “Makhzen” have launched once again a venomous slandering campaign against Algeria after the publishing in the newspaper Echorouk of a fair-minded and most credible assignment report I drafted after my recent visit to the occupied Sahraoui town of Dakhla where I saw for myself the dire situation of the oppressed and muzzled Sahraouis whose only fault is to demand loud and clear their legitimate right to self – determination.
-
As a matter of fact, when I received the invitation to take part there in what was called as “an International Symposium” on the “the Western Sahara and the future of regional security in the Mediterranean region”, I knew beforehand that I would be subjected to biting criticism from the Morrocan side in my capacity as an Algerian writer and journalist participating in such an encounter.
-
But, I was intent on seeing for myself on the spot and against all odds, the deleterious impact induced by those proponents of the so-called Moroccan autonomy plan which the overwhelming majority of the Sahraoui people is rejecting by clinging to the one and only motto: “self – determination in order to put an end to the long-standing Moroccan occupation of the Sahraoui territories”.
-
My presence in Dakhla and my manifold encounters with young freedom-seeking Sahraouis who vented to me their anger and their rejection of the Moroccan occupation of their homeland, prompted the ire of the Moroccan authorities who went as far as to brand me falsely as a “spy” working for the Algerian secret services in a desperate attempt to remove any journalistic credibility to my in – depth and fair – minded assignment report I drafted at the end of my fact – finding reporting mission in Dakhla at the laudable and well-meaning initiative of the newspaper Echorouk.
-
My name was surprisingly splashed on the front-pages of the newspaper “El Aâlem” run by the “Al Istiklal” party led by Moroccan premier Abbas El Fassi in its issue n° 21.736 of August 5th 2010.
-
I was wrongly accused of making a U-turn from my previous stances only because I didn’t toe the mendacious Moroccan line by bringing out in my fact-finding report the legitimate aspirations of the oppressed Sahraoui people in their legitimate quest for freedom and independence…
