Ferhat Mheni, coordinator of the Movement for Autonomy in the Kabylian Region.

Coordinator of the so-called the Movement for Autonomy in the Kabylian Region, Ferhat Mheni and leaders of the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD) participated in the beginning of this week in a meeting of parties and organizations which have Amazigh trends in North Africa under the patronage of Morocco's royal palace.

Royal Advisor, Meziane Belfekih, Rector of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, members of its administration board and a number of deputies and ministers attended this meeting untitled ‘ Amazigh and the stake of development democratic social project.’

In the meeting, Ferhat Mheni asked for autonomy in the Kabylian region.

This meeting was supposed to be held in Algeria but the government did not authorise it.

Commenting on the government’s decision, press attaché at the RCD, Mohamed Khendek said exclusion policy is still exercised by the Algerian system on Amazigh culture and identity.

“The participation of the RCD is natural as it has something to do with its Amazigh identity which the one of the Algerian people,” Khendek told Echorouk.

He added that this participation was not secret and the RCD is ready to attend that kind of meetings in the future.

“The RCD is working on building a Great North Africa living within its authentic Amazigh identity,” he said.

No media report was published on this meeting which was very mysterious.

For his part, the RCD’s representative did not reveal any details on the meeting in Rabat.
