Deputies at People’s National Assembly called for banning access to adult websites to protect children and teenagers. They believe that those sites are in contradiction with religion and Algeria’s Constitution.

Deputies also criticized prerogatives interference between Post Minister and Algeria’s Autorité de Régulation des Postes et Télécommunications (ARTP) which under Prime Minister’s control.

“ARTP’s General Director is appointed by the president of the republic. That may make him to consider himself as a minister,” said deputy Abdenacer Kiouche.

He suggested to put that authority under Post Minister’s control.

Deputies also criticized the government for the delay in launching the 3G in Algeria and failure to generalize computer use among households as it is estimated at 15 percent only.

The number of post offices is low in southern Algeria while communities could not cover this lack. Deputies suggested to extend the use of Thuraya phones in isolated provinces.
