Municipality guards set to be transformed into municipality police in Algeria

As part of the 2008 complementary financial law, the department of the municipality guard was allotted an envelope estimated at 146 million Algerian Dinars destined to pay the elements’ salaries.

• The department benefited from a sum of money amounted to 20.8 million Algerian Dinars to cover the different gratuities and an additional amount of 272 million Algerian Dinars to pay the salaries of other services related to this department.
• A great part of this money will be spent on the restructuring of this security body which comprises some 95 thousand elements dispatched on several services. Its main task is to support the other security bodies ( police, national gendarmerie and military troops) in their fight against terrorism.
• The decision taken to dedicate these huge sums of money for this security body comes to deny allegations saying that its future is at stake and will be dissolved as soon as stability and security is recovered in the country.
