Secretary General of Nanterre’s courts said fugitive businessman Abdelmoumene Khalifa’s case was reopened on Friday. A team of three judges is in charge of following the issue and contacting British judicial authorities for his extradition to appear in court in France accused of embezzlement and money laundering.

Earlier in June, the French judicial authority in charge of following the Khalifa case held a meeting. British authorities did not satisfy the French justice request to extradite Abdelmoumene.

The Secretary General told Echorouk the French justice wants Khalifa to be extradited to Algeria or France.

He believes that France has no problem in terms of Khalifa’s extradition to Algeria.

He also said he understands Algeria’s right in asking for Khalifa’s extradition. “Once he is extradited to one of the two countries, coordination will be conducted to complete investigations as part of bilateral conventions.

French judicial authorities did not hold any plenary séance to trial Khalifa. He was not heard by examining judges and no accredited lawyers were assigned in the court in Nanterre.
