National commission set up in Algeria to follow-up international humanitarian law conventions

The installation Sunday by the Algerian Justice Minister Tayeb Belaiz of the national commission in charge of the follow-up of international humanitarian law conventions is part of the pursuit of the justice reform process and the tallying of law instruments with universal values and the world trend in human rights matters.

This commission, with a clear international scope, was set up at the initiative of the President of the Republic Abdellaziz Bouteflika.

The President’s vision in matters of justice is a reflection of a whole programme aimed at anchoring a genuine culture of the rule of law in Algeria.

The imperious necessity is for the state authorities to rehabilitate the Algerian state in its modern acceptation and its republican character.

This new national commission which is already operational, will report annually to the Head of state on the progress made in the implementation of humanitarian law regulations and the promotion of all human rights’ endeavours undertaken by Algeria at the national and international levels.
