National gendarmerie warns of the use of violence on duty

The national gendarmerie services intensified their campaigns to foster the relationships with the citizens.

• As part of its brand new strategy to modernize this security institution; it has been decided to include Human Rights module to complete the officers’ training.
• The national gendarmerie spokesman, Colonel Ayoub Abderrehmane has declared that the gendarmerie officer has a complete “freedom” when dealing with his investigation, but is still questionable to the judicial authorities.
•  He went on saying that the gendarmerie officer has to “carry out his duty within the laws of the republic and has to respect Human Rights by avoiding any form of violence whether corporal or moral as well as any breach of human dignity”.
• The national gendarmerie has launched a large “cleansing” operation inside its ranks after the return of stability. The national gendarmerie troops were overwhelmed by their fight against terrorism over the last few years.
• This situation led to several cases of abuse of power forcing the institution to proceed to the striking off of many officers on duty.
