Naval Forces Rescued 13.000 Youth, Dismantled 57 Cells Of Human, Weapons Trafficking

Floating offshore units of the Defense Ministry’s Naval Forces, dismantled 57 cells that are specialized in human trafficking, drugs and arms across the sea, as they also addressed the phenomenon of the maritime terrorism, which noticed a dramatic spread in recent years.

Echorouk sources said that the leadership of the Naval Forces dismantled more than 57 cells that are specialized in human trafficking, drugs and arms across the sea, and the Coast Guard services arrested, during the 10 months of the current year, over 982 illegal immigrants, who were trying to cross to the other side of the Mediterranean, by using fishing and rubber boats in the provinces of Annaba and El Tarf (eastern Algeria), and other coastal cities which noticed the return of this phenomenon dramatically.

Defense Ministry’s figures during the current year show that the naval forces rescued more than 13.000 young adventurers who tried to reach the other side of the sea, of all ages, male and female, including 318 foreigners. 

“Maritime surveillance towers, that were installed across the Algerian coasts from Ghazawat westward through the center then El Kala east of the country, contributed to the protection of territorial waters, especially with the emergence of the threats that come from the sea”.

“Results that are achieved after the reliance on human potential and modern means, including sophisticated communication devices, made it possible to thwart the smuggling operations or illegal immigration, and relief through the ships and aircraft of intervention and eavesdropping and re sending relief signals, control of marine outskirts and crossings that lead to ports”.

“Supreme Command of the Army attaches great priority to the development of naval defense system for Algeria’s territorial waters and to protect maritime borders, and this through the development and supply of the Algerian Naval army with the latest tools and systems that allow them to address the various risks that are related to the marine security like the illegal immigration, terrorism, human being trafficking, and all forms of illegal trafficking trade, in the context of the Mediterranean tense that is full of stakes and security challenges”.
