Did protests go down after President Mubarek’s speech and his announcement to form a new cabinet?
Mubarek’s speech is weak and he is in a coma He does not know that the Egyptian people took to the street to topple this regime. They have never been so united. This tyrant has ruled Egypt for 30 years and destroyed its Arab, regional and international role. As for protests, they will not stop until this man’s gone. The opposition has held a meeting and agreed on the tyrant’s departure and forming a national government.
Do you think that the army would intervene to repress the Egyptian people as it happened in 1977?
I do not think that the army would intervene against people but we are trying to prevent Mubarek’s militias from tarnishing the people’s image. The State’s security militias were caught wearing civilian clothes and burning the State’s properties. We are afraid that they would raise clashes between people and the army. That would cause a massacre.
Does it mean that the Egyptian army will be by the people’s side this time?
I told the BBC on Friday that Mubarek misses a big opportunity each time he makes a delay in treating the crisis. The regime does not exist in the street. The army should know that the Mubarek regime is over.
Will America give up its two conditions in the Middle East?
We have sure information that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Ihud Barack visited President Hocni Mubarek in Sharam Esheikh and asked him to not leave power in Egypt. They told him they can convince US President Barrack Obama to support his regime.
If the Mubarek regime collapses, will Egypt abandon Camp David accord with Israel?
We are asking for a national salvation government to lead the country for a transition phase and we do not interfere in foreign choices. These people deserve liberty and a constitutional council should be elected to come up with a new constitution.
