New cars are not concerned by MOT, joint ministerial committee reveals

The Ministerial circular issued last week by the interior ministry requiring technical control on new cars has been has been withdrawn on account of the impossibility to implement it for the time being, a top source from the trade ministry has revealed.

  • The same source told “Echorouk” that the meeting that brought together four ministries, including industry, trade, transport and mines and energy wound up with the conclusion that this operation is not possible for the time being because of the lack of appropriate means.
  •  The quartet considers the circular a plus for the government as it compels the car owner to proceed to a technical control on his newly acquired car in a move to guarantee his security. But the car dealers are only making a technical control on a prototype to make it in conformity with the security standards.
  • Expertise revealed to day light many irregularities when it deals with the issue of the car registration paper to an extent that some vehicles sold in Algeria were retired from circulation in their original countries, especially that the European countries impose crash tests on cars to evaluate their safety under extreme conditions.
