New constitution to be discussed by a specialized technical commission

Political parties accused the power of not being serious in dealing with the project of amending the constitution, which is considered one of the most prominent workshops of change that was launched by president Bouteflika, and expressed dismay because this file became a “marginal issue” in the agenda of decision makers.

Project of amending the constitution is considered one of the largest workshops that were promised by Bouteflika in his famous speech on mid April 2011, in which he talked about his projects for change, while the so called “Arab Spring” was crawling to neighboring Arab countries.

Until now, the faith of amending the constitution is still unknown, and despite the passage of more than a month since the meeting of the PM, Abdelmalek Sellal, with officials of political parties, to discuss this file and consider their proposals about it, but there are no indicators about the approach of a decision in this issue.

According to Taher Ben Baibache, who is the head of Al Fadjr Al Djadid (the new dawn), which was among those who met with Sellal, the project of amending constitution exceeds its first step, as parties received their proposals, and only the formation of a “a technical and not a political commission” is left, with the mission of drafting the new text for the constitution.

Ben Baibache told Echorouk that tight amendments will be included in the expected amendment, touching the powers of the PM, which he considered a disclaimer of the promises that were launched by the power, saying: “I think that the problem is neither in the constitution nor in the nature of the political system, or in the opening of the political terms or their end, but it is in the system itself, which do not respect the laws and legislatives which it issued.

For his part, head of the Algerian National Front, Moussa Touati, expected that the project of amending the constitution will  be presented on the spring parliamentary session, adding: ” I do not think that reviewing the constitution will last long, since decision makers agreed that it will be simple and not significant, as wished by Algerians”,  and as promised by Bouteflika.

MSP party thinks that the fallout of the “lack of seriousness” for power in dealing with the amendment of constitution, and its affects on the coming presidential elections, have no importance if there would be no amendments”.
