New French ambassador to Algeria unfit for the position: French media
French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The name of Javier Drancourt topped the headlines of the French media as the new ambassador to Algeria. The man hold in the past the position of Director General of the administration at the French ministry of foreign affairs.

  • According to the same media, Drancourt is ill- equipped for this position as he lacks experience and very well informed about Arab issues.
  • Javier Drancourt (54) is an expert in political and diplomatic matters and was in the past one of Alain Juppe’s collaborators while this one took office at Matignon and Quai  d’Orssay He was also appointed ambassador to Malaysia during the period 1998-2002.
  • Javier will take office in July, to replace Bernard Pageollet who was assigned the task to lead an intra-security commission at the Elysée , recently created by the French president Nicholas Sarkozy as part of a new strategy to fight against terrorism.
