- A major new expressway will link the city of Tizi-Ouzou, 120 kms east of Algiers to the country’s 1.280 km long East-West highway to be completely achieved by the end of 2012.
- The local authorities have been assigned a budget of US$623 million for the project.
- The new expressway will connect to the East-West highway at the city of Bouira.
- The project forms part of the 2010-14 five–year development plan and is required as the existing route linking Tizi-Ouzou to the East-West highway, ‘the TN 12’, is now carrying more vehicles than it was designed for.
