New law to restructure associations: Algeria minister reveals

Algerian interior minister, Nouredine Yazid Zerhouni criticized various associations for diverting from their original task which consists in supervising young people, to practice business. He vowed to restructure the sector but promised not to limit their liberties.

The minister declared that the Algerian authorities are working on revising the law governing organizations in Algeria by limiting their activities and goals for the benefit of the society.

He added that draft bill is ready to be presented to the government soon, adding that the project will come in accordance with” the country’s need for credible associations which work in harmony with local authorities to foster citizens’ everyday life instead of delving in political issues”.

The minister justified these new measures by the latest events that shook various regions in the country, where young people took to the streets to express their outrage, blaming those associations supposed to be a catalyst agent, for not playing their role.
