Algeria will impose taxes taxes to support local governments’ budget, finance minister said Monday.

“Citizens will pay the new taxes on their cars, local activities and local business,” Karim Djoudi told Echorouk.

He also said the interior and finance ministries were studying the project to determine the tax rates.

“The locations of municipalities, industrial and commercial activities in the local level are key clues to determine the new taxes,” he added.

The new local taxes will be complementary for those included in the budget law 2008 for Algeria’s 1,541 municipalities.
