New local taxes in Algeria

Algeria will impose taxes taxes to support local governments’ budget, finance minister said Monday.

• “Citizens will pay the new taxes on their cars, local activities and local business,” Karim Djoudi told Echorouk.
• He also said the interior and finance ministries were studying the project to determine the tax rates.
• “The locations of municipalities, industrial and commercial activities in the local level are key clues to determine the new taxes,” he added.
• The new local taxes will be complementary for those included in the budget law 2008 for Algeria’s 1,541 municipalities.
