New procedures' repercussions: “A dearth of 100 locally produced drugs in Algeria”
The list of lacking medicines expanded to the locally produced medical items, because the dealers are not able to produce the required quantities, after government banned imports from abroad, as the pharmacists and dealers estimated the list of the items not available in the market between 100 and 150 types of medicines.

Pharmacists expected things will be more complicated after the implementation of the procedures of the new law of Finance during the coming period, especially for the local producers, who will have to wait many weeks for access to the materials that are used in manufacturing many types of medicines, as each imported combination requires a bank loan.

While the crisis will continue for the imported medicines, currently missing, including “Aspegic” for children, and “Ranitidine” for stomach ailments, as well as other types of medicines, because the Ministry of Health is unable to cope with the the situation, pending the outcome of the traders appeal to the government in order to alleviate the recent measures of the complementary law of finance for the current year.

The scarcity of medicines influenced the other alternative types, because the patients and even the pharmacies are obliged to use them in order to offset the deficit or decrease, as many chronically ill patients buy additional quantities of drugs they constantly use, fearing of the scarcity in the pharmacies.

These are all factors that prompted, according to the spokesman of the private pharmacists, Messaoud Belamri, the exacerbation of the situation, in the light of the inability of the Ministry of Health to solve this nagging problem.
