New provisions in Algeria 2009 finance law

Algeria’s 2009 budget provides a set of measures as part of the fight against tax fraud, investment encouraging and tax system simplification.

• The government will create a nationwide agency of fiscal investigations in charge of identifying tax evasion and fraud sources.

• People will not have to pay their taxes in cash if the sums are higher than what is determined by the finance ministry.

• The finance law, which was signed by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika Tuesday, allows extension of tax exemption on incomes and covering financing risks of investment credits for small and middle-seized enterprises.

• It will also set up a method of payment on a trimester basis for tax payers in terms of incomes instead of a monthly payment.
•  
• Tax payers will benefit from a set of measures stipulated by the law and meant to reinforce guarantees in their favour.
