The Algerian authorities tightened security measures around foreign companies’ headquarters especially those located in the “Salafit Group for Call and Combat” strongholds, as it was proceeded to the increase of number of escorts who convoy foreign employees and other preventive measures to fend off any terrorist attacks on western targets.Sources revealed that these security measures were extended to 9 industrial areas scattered in various regions of the country from the, east, center and western parts where nearly 15 foreign companies from different nationalities based their HQs.

  • Answering to “Echourouk” question about these security measures, a security source replied that “they are not exceptional measures “, adding that “ they are just preventive one to back those already in force in order to abort any terrorist plot “ stressing the fact that the terrorists’ possibilities are “limited”, but can cause damage.
  • These measures come against a backdrop of a terrorist attack in the region of Boumeress (70 km east of Algiers) causing the death of a French national and his driver. Various foreign companies reacted to this attack by reiterating their will to stay in Algeria and not withdraw their personnel, but asked them to limit their movements.
  • To recall, foreign companies and employees became the targets of terrorists led by Droudkel and his followers in order to spread panic and achieve media uproar in a very difficult context for these terrorist groups whose activities have been reduced to a maximum by security forces.
