“We tightened control over both Bechar and Tindouf, south of Algeria, and we intensified the borders guards’ patrols and ambushes in the areas that are likely to be suspicious routes of drug traffickers, who started from Morocco towards Mauritania. These measures fall under an urgent security plan that was adopted by third region of the gendarmerie in Bechar, south of Algeria in order to stop the smuggling operations which have been increasing in recent times after the drug traffickers transferred their activity to the southern regions and resorted to violence using arms and weapons to confront the border guards”, security sources told Echorouk.
