No witnesses in Algeria police chief murder
The only witness in the murder of Algeria’s national police chief Ali Tounsi is Colonel Choaib Oualtache, former chief of the police’s aviation, said interior minister.
- “The case is without witnesses,” Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni told reporters.
- Six days ago, Ali Tounsi was shot dead in his office in Algiers. Colonel Oualtache who is in the hospital in Algiers is under suspicion.
- Zerhouni’s remarks show that no one was present when the murder was perpetrated. Yet, it was said a meeting with police executives was supposed to be held on that day in the Algerian security service DGSN’s headquarters.
- “The incident took place between two men. It ended up with the killing of one of them,” Zerhouni said.
- “The crime is without witnesses,” he added.
- Earlier, the interior ministry said Ali Tounsi died in his office while he was in a work meeting. The release did not make clear whether the victim was with the killer in private or whether he was with a general meeting.
