Official: French Parliament Discusses Classification Of Algeria As War Zone Until 1964

The French National Assembly will begin on April 5th 2018 to discuss a draft law that considers Algeria a zone of war operations until July 1964 and thereby to grant the card of war veterans to the French soldiers who worked in Algeria after the Evian agreements.
The first article indicated that the initiative aimed at including an amendment to the Veterans’ War Act that would allow Algeria to be considered a zone of military operations between 2 July 1962 and 1 July 1964.
Article II indicated that the proposal was also intended to grant war veterans who participated in operations in Algeria during the same period the recognition card as war veterans of foreign military operations (OPEX).
Article 3 provided for the measures and possible financial impact of such proceedings in the future Finance Act as defined in articles 575 and 575A of the French General Law on Taxes.
The document sets out an agenda for the general debate on the law, which will be held on April 5 through 3 sessions and a fourth one on 10 April.
The relevant document in our possession revealed that 24 thousand French soldiers who worked in Algeria during that period are still interested in this procedure that is, by granting them the card of war veterans for their deployment in Algeria after the Evian agreements.
A previous document of the French National Assembly revealed that 80 thousand French troops worked in Algeria after the Evian agreements until the end of July 1964, with 535 soldiers reportedly being killed.
