Opposition party endorses Bouteflika’s participation to Paris’ summit

The Rally for Culture and Democracy party (RCD) hailed the participation of the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika at the summit for the foundation of the Mediterranean Union slated for July 13th in Paris.

• The party argued that it was crucial to protect the Algerian interests within the international institutions, refusing to bargain the country’s foreign policy with ideological considerations.
• Talking on a conference call held in his parliamentary group HQ at the lower chamber, the deputy head of the council, Noureddine Ait Hammouda  declared “ it is a mistake to refuse to take part to this Paris’ summit only because the Israeli state is convened, because that will lead us to withdraw from the UN because Israel is a member in”.
• He went on saying “We are not more royalists than the king, most of the Arab nations, including the Palestinians, set diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv, while Algeria is living in isolation from the rest of the world because of its position towards Israel”.
