Ouargula:residents angry over child’s death due to electric shock
Hundreds of residents in the area of Frane in the province of Ouargula (south of Algiers) took to the street on Wednesday as they carried a young boy’s body expressing anger over his death.
The protesters shouted « injustice » and « carelessness » slogans while Ouargula’s prefect ordered to open an investigation into the victim’s death.
Mohamed Safi Souissi, 10, was killed on Wednesday by an electric shock as he tried to turn on a well pump to dring water while his hands were wet.
His cousin Ismail Boualem Kerout said his screaming was heard from 500 meters. He was immediatelly taken to hospital where he died.
The angry protesters accused municipal officials for negligence although residents submitted complaints of water crisis which has hit the area for 10 days.
The prefect received the victim’s family and promised them to investigate in the issue and punish the officials behind the deadly accident.
