- Well-informed sources from the National Mining Federation told Echorouk that the Ouenza and Boukhadra iron sites in eastern Algeria are going dangerously downhill on account of neglect and mismanagement by those in charge of the two mining complex units.
- The same sources say that the sites are littered with rubble and other refuse adding the Ouenza and Boukhadra mining complex units are now in the throes of a disastrous situation compounded with a drastic fall in iron production over the past few years owing to neglect and couldn’t care less policy adopted by the senior executives in charge of the running of the sites.
- The socio-professional condition of the long-neglected workers there is also very precarious, the same sources added.
- A spokesman for the National Mining Federation Mr Mohamed Baki who made this somber assessment of the situation at the Ouenza and Boukhadra iron deposits in a statement to Echorouk, also seized the opportunity to call on Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal to “take urgent steps to remedy the situation at the two failing production sites before things go further awry”, as he put it.
