Ould Kablia accuses terrorist gangs of being behind the forging of half a million national identity cards
The Algerian minister of the Interior and local assemblies, Daho Ould Kablia, has revealed that between 2 and 3% of the overall national identity cards in Algeria have been forged by the criminal terrorists gangs.
- Mr Ould Kablia indicated that the security services had solid evidence after thorough field investigations that about half a million national identity cards were fake in the country on account of the counterfeiting practices of terrorist gangs.
- The interior Minister evoked in this connection the imperious necessity of going ahead with the gradual issuing of biometric identity documents in order to stamp out this nefarious scourge across the national territory.
- The Algerian government has started implementing the political reforms announced last Friday by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Interior Ministry further said in his statement to the press on Thursday outside a parliamentary session.
- The Interior Ministry indicated that Minister Daho Ould Kablia had decided to set up working groups to implement the guidelines outlined by the Head of State in his April 15 speech to the nation.
- These working groups will be installed in the ministry headquarters to ensure consultation with political parties, civil society representatives, experts and elected officials.
- “This process will be based on discussions and dialogue, and it will aim at not only reinforcing the political and constitutional process by true reforms, but also will review the way of thinking and working of the public administration and elected institutions, in addition to the reinforcement of the participation of all political, social and economy forces adhered to the building of democracy within the framework of a republican state inspiring its force and legitimacy from the people,” the statement said.
- President Bouteflika pledged in his keynote speech to set up a true representative and participative democracy to boost a genuine democratic process and the rule of law in Algeria, by amending the constitution and reviewing codes of political parties and elections.
