Palestinian authority gets instructions from US, says Abu Marzouk
Moussa Abu Marzouk

Some members of the Palestinian security forces do not receive orders from their chiefs but from US senior officers. Because of that, Palestinian reconciliation talks between Hamas and Fatah have collapsed, according to a senior Hamas official.

  • Some pillars in the Palestinian authority have interests with Israel and do not like to reach a national unity, Deputy Hamas leader Moussa Abu Marzouk told Echorouk in an interview.
  • Hamas said it was boycotting the reconciliation talks blaming Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas for the talks’ failure. Its decision not to stay away was taken after Fatah failed to release 500 Palestinian prisoners from its jails.
  • Abu Marzouk says Egypt tried to convince the Palestinian president about the release of the prisoners but Hamas has been told that the arrests were legal and justified.
  • Hamas official hopes that the US newly elected President Barack Obama would be wiser in dealing with the Middle East issues especially the Palestinian question.
  • Israeli-Palestinian peace talks is a major foreign policy priority of the Obama administration. His promise “to promote the cause of peace” throughout the world has raised hopes among the Palestinian people.
