Pieds-Noirs' visit to Boufarik city raises anger among citizens
Pieds-Noirs’ visit to the city of Boufarik, northeast of Blida, raises anger among citizens.
Citizens described Pieds-Noirs’ access to the monument of the martyrs without authorization of the Algerian authorities as a provocative behavior and a desecration of the sanctity of the “martyrs.”
Boufarik city noticed the influx of French delegations, who came on a tourist trip to visit their hometowns.
According to citizens, who were interviewed by Echorouk, they started roaming across the city and inspecting homes and buildings where they lived with their parents and grandparents during the colonial era.
“They stood on the colonial buildings, like shops, schools and the town hall and took pictures of the buildings that are affected due to negligence, in order to take them to France which killed our ancestors and our fathers”, some citizens say.
They added that these pictures will be used inevitably in launching a campaign distorting Algeria’s image, especially since the city was called “little Paris” that was left by the French colonialism like a garden, and after half a century, they returned and found that it lost its beauty, and this raised anger among citizens.
