PM Ouyahia urges key ministries to follow diligently the legal cases introduced by former colonial settlers and harkis at the prodding of “vengeful lobbies” in France
Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia, has urged several key ministerial departments to follow with the utmost attention the legal cases over real-estate property introduced before to Algerian justice by former colonial settlers and harkis who are seeking to retrieve their lost property left behind after Algeria's accession to freedom and independence on July 5th 1962.
- Prime Minister Ouyahia issued firm guidelines to several key ministries including the ministries of foreign affairs, the Interior, Justice, Finance and Agriculture to examine thoroughly the ins and outs of these cases before their transfer to the courts for a final ruling.
- Most of the properties left behind by the former colonial settlers and the harkis on the eve of Algeria‘s independence were rightfully taken over by the Algerian state through the promulgation of several relevant laws starting from August 1962.
- The Algerian Prime Minister declared in this connection that it was patently clear that the move by former colonial settlers and the harkis was politically-motivated as it was spurred by what he called “vengeful and spiteful lobbies” operating on the other side of the Mediterranean”.
